Marvellous Marylebone: a Vibrant Village - tour with Blue Badge guide Laurence
Join me for a walking tour of one of London's most delightful but not always wholesome areas
Fee £14
Meet outside Bond Street Station , Marylebone Lane exit @ 11am- 11.15. Lots of nice cafes nearby.
The exit is on the north side of Oxford St, opposite Boots
Hidden away behind the throng of the West End is this wonderful little village with a very residential feel . It has one of the most magnificent art galleries, some glorious churches and a statue of a fictional character some thought was real....not the statue, the character!
Like all of London's areas it has, of course, has its edgy moments too- a pleasure garden which could turn unpleasant and a famous bank theft - no, they didnt steal the bank.....!
Add to this a magnifcent station - one of the first - and a hotel which never became a hotel but was lived in by HG Wells. In fact many a name will be dropped on this one such as Dick Turpin, Guy Burgess, Lord Byron,Admiral Nelson, Charles Wesley, The Laughing Cavalier(ok that's a painting) and the Beatles.
Plus a huge department store that has always been known for its innovation.
Please note that at traffic lights i will always wait for the green man signal- if there is one -and that at other crossings and on the streets generally attendees need to be vigilant.
Guided walk £14 - payable on the day
