Day in Reading - bus to Sonning,River Thames Walk, Visit to Reading Museum

This is a popular walk and if you are able to come it please do, you would not be disappointed. THIS WALK IS UNIQUE, INTERESTING AND VARIED....LOTS OF FUN.

We will meet at Pret Et Mangee  which is opposite Reading Rail Station fror a hot drink at 10.45 am.

After our hot drink at 11.10 am we will go to the bus stop to get the 11.25 am bus to Sonning.

Sonning is a village and civil parish in Berkshire, England, on the River Thames, east of Reading. The village was described by Jerome K. Jerome in his book Three Men in a Boat as "the most fairy-like little nook on the whole river".

Lunch will be in The 16th century pub the Bull Inn, this needs to be booked {I have eaten in there and the food is very good and highly recommended, if you want lunch, please let me know.} or you can bring your own.

After lunch will do the pleasant walk past Sonning Lock, along the River Thames, and the River Kennet and Avon Canal into Reading.

Then we will go to the Reading Museum, where the galleries house wonderful historic and artistic objects both local and global- you can browse each gallery.

The Sir John Madejski Art Gallery hosts a changing programme of temporary exhibitions for you to enjoy.

Highlights include important archaeological finds from Roman Silchester and medieval Reading Abbey.

There is also our unique Victorian copy of the Bayeux Tapestry, contemporary Aldermaston Pottery and the famous Huntley & Palmers biscuit tins. We'll learn about their fascinating history and why they are in the museum.

After we have been to the museum we will go and have a drink before we return to Reading Station which is less than 5 minutes walk away

The walk is hardened paths, grassland,, and is all flat.
