A SICILIAN ISLAND ADVENTURE with Lits

This trip is not for the faint-hearted, only the most adventurous travellers should read on……!

Marettimo is the remotest island of the Aegadian Archipelago, twenty-five kilometres off the west coast of Sicily. Wild, mountainous, unspoilt, surrounded by cobalt blue seas. Being accessible only by and hour and a half ferry ride from Trapani has helped to preserve its’ natural beauty and tranquillity. Most visitors are ‘continental’ Sicilians or wealthy Romans with hidden boltholes. There are no nightclubs, tourist traps, luxury hotels or even cars on the island (there are no roads anyway!). Transport is either on foot, by bike, by boat or on the back of mules. Its’ uncontaminated nature makes it a rare jewel.

The plan is to spend five nights on this idyllic natural paradise sharing a few simple springtime pleasures; walking (wild flowers abound!), reading, relaxing, long lunches, taking a boat tour or hopping on a ferry to another island. Just enjoying time together or alone, as you wish - each of us based in our own studio apartment (with all facilities), located on the coast, overlooking the harbour and only a few minutes walk from town.

The tourist season will not have properly begun so it will be hit and miss what we find open. There will always be a café and a restaurant or two serving the locals and for sure we won’t go hungry as, along with being your host, I would also put my culinary skills to hand, should the occasion arise.

Before heading across to the island, we will spend two nights in Trapani at my friend Sicilian friend Gio’s B&B to acclimatise ourselves and pick up anything we may fancy taking with us.

Along with out of season peace, tranquillity (and affordability!) comes uncertainty, as the weather cannot be guaranteed and, if the seas are rough, there is the risk of being marooned!
We will monitor the forecast closely, however you must be prepared to be flexible should needs must. We are very resourceful and there will always be somewhere else to stay or to go to, however it is important to be aware that this may incur extra costs that you must be prepared to pay for.

Cost: £975 per person (places limited to seven)

The trip includes:
7 x nights accommodation (2 x nights bed and breakfast in an ensuite single room, Trapani, 5 x nights in a studio apartment, Marettimo), return transfers from Trapani airport, return ferry fare, luggage transfers, two lunches and two dinners.
